FIRST SQUAT THEN DEADLIFT.
NEVER deadlift before you squat.
If will first squat and then you won't succeed in the deadlift then no harm, the weight isn't moving.
But if you deadlift then squat then you're stuck(unless you kill kittens by squatting half the way)
There are several more reason to squat first that I can't recall, look for the "Rippetoe faq" and seach there.
The best way to rest between sets is actually prone(lying), then sitting and then standing.
